The
YELLOW BRICK HOMES
Philosophy:
The 3 things that were searched for in the Wizard of OZ are also the 3 things we think it takes to build a quality home.
Having the BRAINS to project manage and construct each home within budgetary limits, market appeal, and within the realm of all covenants, restrictions and guidelines set forth by owners, developers and lawmakers of the great land of Texas. |
Having the HEART to understand customer desires, the ability to nurture vendor and supplier relationships, and the attitude to respect the goals of the community. |
Having the COURAGE to take on an entrepreneurial venture that will initiate a new residential home construction business in a community that is beginning to experience an increase in population growth, expand in new retail industry, and one that continues to promote the overall Central Texas appeal within its principles established among the economic development team.

EXPERIENCE
The combined experience of Gary Szanto and Diane Lacen of Yellow Brick Homes LLC totals over 35 years in the construction/building industry. Gary, born and raised in Waco, has traveled to many parts of the US to design and build both commercial and residential structures. He settled in Albuquerque, New Mexico in the late 80’s and became fascinated with the southwest architecture. From remodel to new construction, Gary has created beautiful arrangements of design, color, form and function within each project. He has now brought this splendor back home to Texas where he has introduced a unified culture of “Tex-que” (pronounced tex-key) design in the Yellow Brick Homes line that has now landed in Hewitt, Waco, and Woodway.
Diane brings her varied experience in construction marketing, human resources, and as a previous custom cabinet shop owner in New Mexico, to each project by visualizing the big picture and working with clients to ensure that their needs, wants, and dreams are met. Gary and Diane pay close attention to detail and feel that each home should have individual personality by displaying its unique design and character to whomever steps foot in the front door.
OUR STORY
The name “YELLOW BRICK HOMES” was chosen for two reasons. First is how the Wizard of Oz story prepares the cast to find their way home by “following the YELLOW BRICK road”. Second, in order to get home, the Ruby Red Slippers became the catalyst for making Dorothy‘s dream come true. She just wanted to go home and had the power to get there. As a result, YELLOW BRICK HOMES puts one Ruby Red Slipper into the slab of each home and presents the other Ruby Red Slipper to the Buyer at closing. This keepsake completes the pair of shoes to symbolize that “there’s no place like home”….a Yellow Brick Home that is!
Living in Central Texas and in the stream of tornado alley, seems to provoke a constant and uncertain mystery of the tornado. The latest storm that landed in the Waco area in May 2006, referred to as an F-2 tornado, brought fierce winds and damage to many homes and businesses in the wee hours of the morning. Even though Central Texas has not experienced a severe and deadly tornado as that which occurred in 1953, every storm in the distance, every howling wind, or any sudden eerie stillness in the air still creates that feeling of worry and speculation. A Ruby Red Slipper may not prevent a tornado from occurring in Central Texas, but there are safety features offered by YELLOW BRICK HOMES that may help to eliminate some of the tornado fears. All in all, it still comes down to knowing that “there’s no place like home.”
ECONOMY
Finally, every effort will be made to remain attentive to any changes that occur within the community, employment development, the political area, and even issues pertaining to worldwide intimidation that could provoke financial loss or adversity to the economy. None of the homes built by YELLOW BRICK HOMES will be completed in excess of budget to prevent any great loss to the business, the respective lender, or the home buyer.
The YELLOW BRICK HOMES team will continuously involve themselves in activities, organizations, and fund raisers that enhance the community and the growth of Central Texas.
